Three words you'd use to describe your area:

City for the outdoor lover and nature enthusiast and haven for the foodies

What's your favorite local cafe or coffee shop and why?

Tamp Coffee Co. Café & Eatery is a quaint coffee shop in the heart of downtown Burlington. It's full of character and charm, with options to enjoy your coffee either inside or outdoors on their delightful patio. Their Chai Tea is second to none. Combine it with one of their sweet or savoury food selections and you've got the perfect social outing.

You've got a dog lover visiting, where do you go?

There are dog parks a plenty in Burlington, many in your local neighbourhoods. They are a great place to meet your neighbours. There are plenty of hiking trails, and parks that allow for dogs on a leash as well.

You need a get-away-from it all escape, where do you go and why?

My happy place is on the shores of Lake Ontario. Burlington offers amazing walking and cycling paths along the lake, has beautiful beaches for lounging, watching a sunrise or swimming, and has a lovely modern pier that makes for some epic photography.

A foodie fanatic is visiting, where do you take them and what will you order?

My favourite place to eat is Beertown Public House. This friendly beer bar is a leader in the craft beer dining revolution. I think you could dine here once a week for a year and still not get through their entire menu of craft beer selections. The food menu is incredible - you've got to try the fish tacos!

When I'm feeling super health conscious their energy bowls are to die for. My favourite is the Yucatan Bowl fill with an array of mouth watering tastes.

In the summer months the patio is the place to be. Surrounded by hanging baskets and flowering planters, a meal on their outdoor patio oasis is a must have experience.

You're filling a gift bag that showcases 3 - 5 of your favorite local goods, what do you include?

My gift bag would include some homemade jams and preserves from Springridge farm in north Burlington, some adorable little potted succulents from Centro Garden on Brant Street and some delightful cupcakes from Kelly's Bake Shop on Brant Street.

City explorers unite! Where would you take a visitor if you only had 3 hours to show off your area and why?

I would start my three hour tour of Burlington at the waterfront Pier. It has become a Burlington icon, and makes for some awesome pictures. We'd stroll through Spencer Smith Park, enjoying the beautiful breeze off of Lake Ontario.

Then we'd stroll up Brant Street and pop into Centro Garden. This would be followed by a stroll through Village Square, Pine Street and Elizabeth Street - taking in the beauty of old downtown Burlington. We'd end our trip with a drive up to Kern Cliff Park which has an amazing lookout point.

On a clear day one can see the CN tower from this lookout. Kern Cliff park has a wonderful board walk, where lots of wildlife can be seen from.

And the park has some amazing cliffs to give my visitor a taste of the phenomenal escarpment the surrounds our city.

Sporting teams can bring a community together - what teams do you love to cheer for?

Burlington has a world famous Teen Tour Band that is well worth checking out. Burlington locals tend to route for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Blue Jays and for the 2019 NBA champions - the Toronto Raptors.

How long have you lived in this incredible place? What brought you here and why you suggest someone else consider moving here?

I was born and raised in the lovely city of Burlington. I've lived in a variety of cities, and in a variety of countries. I've traveled the world and now find myself back in the beautiful city of my birth - and I'm absolutely loving it.

The neighborhood you call home and what you love about it:

I live in Alton Village in Burlington and I absolutely love it. It's close to everything I need - shopping, gym, coffee shops. It's at the edge of the city, so within just one kilometre I'm biking in the rolling hills of the beautiful countryside.

All About You

My name is Rita Zietsma. I am a photographer. I love all things photography and have been blessed with capturing so much beauty as I have traveled around the world. I especially love portrait photography.

I believe all people are unique and are beautiful. Everyone has a story to tell, a story that can be told in portraits. I love that I can honour people with this.
